Speke Test Centre
Speke test centre is located in the Dakota Business Park off Speke Hall Avenue, close to Liverpool John Lennon Airport. It serves learners from south Liverpool, Garston, Halewood and Hunts Cross. The surrounding road network is more varied than inner-city centres — you’ll encounter dual carriageways, country lanes and residential streets all within the same test.
What to Expect on Test Routes
Local knowledge is really valuable at Speke. Our instructors take learners out to practise the specific junctions and roads that appear regularly:
- A561 Speke Boulevard features heavily — practise maintaining appropriate speed and overtaking safely on a dual carriageway
- Speke Hall Road and the airport junction roundabouts appear frequently
- Country lanes near Hale Village catch many learners off guard — watch for national speed limit signs and take care on narrow roads
- Traffic lights and bus lanes around Garston village require careful observation
Speke Test Centre Routes
Local knowledge definitely helps at Speke. Your driving instructor should take you around the local area as you approach your test date. Test routes are no longer published online and you’ll also be asked to complete a section of independent driving.

Speke’s pass rate has varied over the years — the five-year history is in the table above. The best way to improve your chances is to book your test only when your instructor confirms you’re at test standard.

Other Test Centres Near Speke
Learners from south Liverpool also have access to Norris Green test centre to the north, and Widnes and St Helens within a short drive. We always recommend using the centre closest to where you’ve been practising your lessons.
Your driving test
We recommend getting to your driving test slightly early, in Speke there is lots of parking available on the roads outside the test center. If you are taking your test with your driving instructor they will know the usual procedure.
If you are taking your driving test without an instructor (using a car with a supervising driver) then please do not practice in the test center as you may affect people sitting their tests. Arrive at the test center a few minutes before your allocated time and park in a parking bay marked ‘Customers’. Once parked proceed inside and wait for your name to be called. The examiner will then start the test.
At the end of your test
You will return to the driving test centre with the examiner who will then give you a pass or a fail, with some feedback based on your drive and any mistakes you may have made. This will also be emailed to you. Fingers crossed you have passed, if not use the feedback received to work on the areas you need to before resitting your driving test.
