Andy's Quick Q&A
Why did you train to become a driving instructor?
I’ve always enjoyed driving and often thought about becoming a driving instructor - the flexibility of being self employed and working in my local area is a big plus - but the satisfaction of seeing students emotions when they pass their test tops everything!
Why did you pick your Mini as an instructor car?
I wanted a car that was a little bit different, comfortable and both good about town or on the motorway - my diesel mini clubman fits the bill perfectly.
How old were you when you passed your driving test, and did you pass first time?
I was 21 and passed second time - I can still picture the lady on the opposite side of the road in her cream coat who suddenly changed direction and stepped out onto the zebra crossing…
What was your first car and why did you pick it?
First car was a 10 year old blue VW Golf with over a 100,000 miles on the clock. It was cheap and i knew the guy who was selling it through a friend. He didn’t tell me that the sunroof leaked though!
Favourite holiday?
I’ve just had the holiday of a lifetime, I climbed Kilimanjaro and went on a safari for 6 days straight after - it was amazing.
Favourite Road trip?
Favourite road trip is still on my to do list - across the Alps and into Italy. The roads in West Scotland are amazing too - I drove across Bealach na Ba (Applecross Pass) last year which was amazing despite the bad weather.
What is your dream car?
My dream car is one that doesn’t break down and doesn’t like going in for repairs!
When you aren’t teaching, where can we find you?
When I’m not teaching you’ll find me walking my dogs on Formby beach or hiking in the Lake District.
